Growth in freight traffic via Dostyk-Alashankou: KTZ records an increase in freight traffic

Rail freight through the Dostyk-Alashankou interstate junction increased by 6% from January to November 2025, reaching 17.8 million tons

According to the press service of JSC NC Kazakhstan Temir Zholy, the volume in carload terms amounted to 450.2 thousand units, a 1% increase compared to the same period last year.

Positive trends were observed in both the transfer of freight to and from China. During the reporting period, 209.7 thousand carloads were delivered, representing 12.9 million tons (+4%), and 241 thousand carloads, representing 4.8 million tons, were received, representing a 12% increase. Export freight also increased: 138.9 thousand carloads (+6%) or 9.2 million tons (+10%) compared to the same period in 2024.

Significant growth was driven by key Kazakh exports via the Dostyk station to China: ore — 6.2 million tons (+20%), oil cargo — 322,800 tons (+35.6%), chemical products — 70,600 tons (+1%), and animal feed — 522,400 tons (a threefold increase). KTZ emphasized that the company will continue to work to sustainably increase transportation volumes, focusing on the reliability and efficiency of logistics.
