The Eurasian Transport Network Observatory serves as an analytical tool for monitoring and systematising infrastructure development projects along transport corridors and routes that form part of the Eurasian Transport Network. The Observatory encompasses a database of infrastructure projects tied to international transport corridors and routes within the network, as well as a geoinformation system for mapping these projects. It extends across thirteen countries within the Eurasian region: Azerbaijan, Armenia, Afghanistan, Belarus, Georgia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. The Observatory is compiled and updated using open-source information, including national and international transport development programmes, press releases, expert assessments, and other publicly available data.
The Observatory provides details on each project’s name, description, country of implementation, transport corridor, mode of transport, investment volume (with breakdowns by funding source), timeline, implementation status, public-private partnership indicators, and other parameters. As of 1 July 2025, the Observatory includes 325 projects — both ongoing and planned — pertaining to the development of the Eurasian Transport Network, with a total investment value of $234.1 billion.
The majority of projects (51.9 percent) focus on road infrastructure, while Russia accounts for the largest share (48.5 percent) in terms of project count. In terms of investment value, Russia’s share is significantly higher — 58.6 percent ($137.1 billion). Notably, seven out of the ten largest infrastructure projects within the Eurasian Transport Network are being implemented in Russia.
The Northern Eurasian Corridor represents the most capital-intensive development, with an estimated total investment of $78 billion — over one-third of the Eurasian Transport Network’s total capital expenditure. Meanwhile, the projected cost of developing the International North—South Transport Corridor in 2025 stands at $44.5 billion.
More than 60 percent of all Eurasian Transport Network projects (by investment volume) are currently under implementation. A further 12.8 percent are in the preparatory stage (finalising project documentation), while 27.2 percent remain in the planning phase.
Central Asian countries account for over 22 percent of total investment directed towards the Eurasian Transport Network. There are 90 projects underway or planned in the region, with a combined value exceeding $52.8 billion. Kazakhstan alone represents more than 44 percent of this figure. Over 58 percent of Central Asia’s investment is allocated to road network development, reflecting the critical role of road transport in facilitating international freight and trade. Another 34.5 percent is dedicated to railway segments along transport corridors traversing Central Asia.
The largest share of investment ($39.8 billion) in Central Asia’s segment of the Eurasian Transport Network is directed towards expanding the TRACECA corridor (Transport Corridor Europe-Caucasus-Asia), including the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route.
