Operated by state rail freight company PKP Cargo, the train carries goods from multiple European countries, including furniture, footwear, ski equipment, and playground gear. Deliveries to Warsaw were made by lorry before the cargo is transported via rail, with expected transit to China in under two weeks, significantly faster than disrupted sea routes.
The route will pass through the Małaszewicze terminal in eastern Poland, where cargo is reloaded onto broad gauge tracks before continuing via Belarus and Russia to Henan province. From there, goods will be distributed throughout China and other Asian markets. PKP Cargo noted that container trains from China have been arriving in Warsaw since 2016, and this service represents the first outbound route from the capital.
Officials highlight that the initiative could «pave the way» for stronger trade links, stimulate economic growth, and enhance Poland’s position in global logistics chains. Furniture manufacturers in particular stand to benefit from faster access to Asian markets, offering opportunities for export growth amid rising global demand. Regular services may be introduced if demand proves strong, with two additional trains scheduled in the coming weeks.
