The launching of all these new services took place between late May and early July. The new services are here to stay since they will offer multiple trips and remain regular on the timetables. New links, new hubs
Starting from late May, the first new service launched by DB Cargo Eurasia was that between Nanjing-Tilburg. The first block train arrived in Tilburg on 4 June after 20 days and 11,500 kilometres on the Eurasian corridor. It carried different types of goods, while the service is to remain regular between the two cities. During its arrival, it was welcomed with a ceremony, and RailFreight.com was there. Later, on 25 June, DBCE launched the Hefei-Wilhelmshaven service. The train departed from Hefei on 25 June with a volume of around 100 TEUs, mainly household appliances, textiles and electrical goods, which were distributed from Wilhelmshaven to the European hinterland. Partners in the new connection are the state-owned port operating company Hefei International Land Port (HILP), DB Cargo Russia, DB Cargo Polska and DB Cargo Intermodal Sales.
The second train between the two destinations departed on 27 July, and more are about to come. Dmitrij Hasenkampf, Director of Sales at DB Cargo Eurasia, stretched the importance of the service because of the long-term strategic relationship between Niedersachsen and Anhui province.
Xi’an-Paris and Houma-Hamburg didn’t take long to launch after that. The first Xi’an-Paris train departed on 28 June, and a second train followed in July, while the first Houma-Hamburg train on 30 June. Both services have more trips planned during August and later.
What’s more to come?
Apart from the new destinations, DB Cargo Eurasia founded a legal entity in China in July 2021: DB Cargo Transasia. This new DB Cargo Eurasia subsidiary will facilitate the mission of the first one to provide Eurasian rail transport services through close collaboration.
What is more, DBCE’s top wish for 2021 remains the same. The company still aims to transport dangerous goods through China, a goal that has not been fulfilled yet. As Dmitrij Hasenkampf explained in an interview during RailFreight Live, the pandemic made things quite tricky in this regard. «In such cases, to prove that the offered solution is safe, you need to meet physically. Unfortunately, because of the restrictions, we have not been able to do so and thus, we need to wait a bit longer. Next year might be our year».
