KTZ and Urumqi Railway discussed the development of transportation at the Dostyk-Alashankou border crossing

A meeting was held at Alashankou station between Talgat Aldybergenov, Chairman of the Board of JSC NC KTZ, and Guo Jian, Chairman of the Board of Urumqi Railways LLC

The parties reviewed the results of rail transportation between Kazakhstan and China for 2025, noting the growth in freight traffic and exports of metals, petroleum products, coal, and chemicals, as well as a threefold increase in grain and animal feed shipments. Plans for 2026, the implementation of electronic document management and paperless technologies, and freight, commercial, locomotive, and infrastructure issues were also discussed.

The Kazakh side reported on the implementation of key infrastructure projects, including the introduction of second tracks on the Dostyk-Mointy section, the modernization of the Altynkol-Zhetygen line, and the progress of the third border crossing project, Bakhty-Tacheng. Special attention was paid to expediting the acceptance of grain cargo and reducing laboratory testing times, including by organizing sample shipments to Urumqi. During the visit, the KTZ delegation toured the infrastructure of Alashankou Station, including the transshipment terminals, bonded warehouse, control center, and production facilities of China’s largest border railway hub.

Furthermore, a monument unveiling ceremony was held at Dostyk Station, commemorating the 35th anniversary of the connection between the Kazakhstan and China railways and the opening of the Dostyk-Alashankou border crossing. Since its inception, the border crossing has handled over 425 million tons of freight. Following the visit, a protocol was signed at the final working meeting of the border railways of Kazakhstan and China, in which the parties confirmed the strategic role of this route for the development of international transport corridors and transit traffic, as well as the importance of Kazakhstan as a reliable land bridge between China, Europe, and the regions of Eurasia.
