The project includes the construction of Yerdaut station and a new section towards Maktaaral station, integrating the southern regions into Kazakhstan’s unified railway network.
The new line will provide a direct rail connection to the main KTZ network, facilitate the redistribution of transit freight flows from Russia and China to Central Asian countries, and reduce the load on Saryagash station by approximately 40%. Once the line is operational, trains will travel along the new route to Khavast in Uzbekistan, Khujand in Tajikistan, and Galaba in Afghanistan, increasing the efficiency of regional transportation.
The project also has significant socioeconomic benefits. During construction in 2025-2026, approximately 3,400 temporary jobs will be created, and an additional 500 permanent jobs are planned for after the line’s launch in 2026. KTZ notes that the Darbaza-Maktaaral line will strengthen Kazakhstan’s transit role and improve transport connectivity between Central Asian countries.
