BEIJING, March 12 — The China-Europe Railway Express handled 3,501 freight trips in the first two months of this year, carrying 352,000 twenty-foot equivalent units of goods, up 32 percent and 25 percent year on year, respectively, according to data released on Thursday by China State Railway Group Co., Ltd.

Since the start of 2026, railway authorities have strengthened coordination and operation of the China-Europe freight train service, optimizing scheduling to better align with market demand, the company said.

In close cooperation with customs authorities, they have also optimized the digital port system, continuously enhancing the efficiency of railway port customs clearance.

Looking ahead, the company said it will accelerate the establishment of a high-efficiency transport system, a safety management framework, a diversified corridor network, and an innovation-driven development mechanism for the China-Europe Railway Express.

Efforts to improve the quality and efficiency of train operations will continue, with the aim of providing safe, high-quality and efficient international logistics services to domestic and overseas clients, it said.

EU-China Trade and Investment Relations in Challenging Times
Trade continues to be the least problematic aspect of the EU-China economic relationship. The BRI offers potential trade gains for Europe by improving physical connectivity with countries along the route to China, but it also poses challenges for the EU. While Chinese investment in Europe is growing and has focused strongly on technology, it raises the question of whether the EU should fear losing its technological edge, especially when Chinese state-owned companies might distort competition through foreign acquisitions.
