Dostyk station is a border transshipment station, responsible for a complete set of operations on reception and dispatch of trains moving via state border, transshipment from one wagon to another due to the gauge changeover, exchanging of freight and passenger wagons from trucks of one gauge to another, making up and splitting of trains, dispatched to and arrived from railway systems of Kazakhstan and other countries.

Geography

It is located nearly 158 km to the Southeast from the center of Usharal in Dzungarian Gate. Border railway station on Kazakhstan-China Border.

Brief technical description

Dostyk station is out-of-class station with sequential arrangement of tracks. In terms of activity type, it belongs to freight border station performing functions of freight and sorting station.

The station layout consists of three receiving and departure tracks and one track for customs inspection of trains and wagons. The station comprises of the wagon maintenance point and wagons exchanging point (WEP) from broad gauge to narrow gauge and back as well as seven transshipment areas. Existing wagon exchanging point has 10 sizes of bogies exchanging for passenger wagons and 42 sizes of bogies exchanging for freight wagons.
