The ranking is based on the increase in state aid received under the national rail freight funding framework.
The company’s funding rose from EUR 1.18m in 2024 to EUR 2.16m in 2025, an increase of EUR 978,000 or 82.7%, placing it eighth in the market.
FRACHTbahn’s growth follows the expansion of its operations and the opening of a branch in Duisburg in 2024, strengthening its presence on key freight corridors. The operator provides traction services for freight forwarders and industrial customers and holds a Single Safety Certificate for cross-border operations.
Hector Rail, KombiRail Europe, and Smart Rail ranked in the top three, with other operators in the top ten including MEG, Helrom, Medway Belgium, HHPI, dispo-Tf Rail, and ČD Cargo.
